On Friday night, Chennedy Carter and the Chicago Sky are slated to face off against the LA Sparks. After missing the team's last four games, it appears the veteran guard is set to make her return.
Over the past two weeks, Carter has been battling an illness. That said, she seems ready to rejoin her teammates in this final stretch of the regular season. The Sky put out their injury report for Friday's matchup on X (formerly Twitter), and Carter is listed as healthy and available to play.
Before missing time with an illness, Chennedy Carter was having one of her best seasons in the WNBA. In 28 games for the Sky, she is averaging 17.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals.
Getting Carter back is big for the Sky, as they need some spark to turn things around. Coming out of the break after the Olympics, they found themselves in the playoff picture. However, Chicago has been on a losing skid. This has opened the door for other teams to potentially jump it in these final matchups.
The Sky enter Friday's matchup with LA on the wrong end of a seven-game losing streak. They cling on to the eighth and final playoff spot, but are now tied with Atlanta Dream at 11-22.
Chennedy Carter looking to help Chicago Sky make a playoff push
At the moment, things aren't looking good for the Chicago Sky as the regular season comes to a close. However, Chennedy Carter will hope to turn things around upon her return.
During a recent media availability, Carter opened up on the message that she gave her team. She admitted she was out longer than she wanted but is poised to lead the group as it attempts a playoff push.
"I let them know, guys I know I was out for a minute, longer than expected but I'm back now," Carter said. "I'm ready to work with you guys, I missed you guys, I want to make a run, I'm here to do that. Let's f***** do it."
This season, the Sky have had a lot of success against the LA Sparks. However, it isn't a team Chennedy Carter has had big outings against. Chicago won the first meeting in May by 10 points, with Carter scoring 14 points. The second matchup was a nail-biter, but the Sky still managed to win by four. Carter didn't break double-digits that night, finishing with nine points and five rebounds.
With little margin for error down the stretch, Carter seems poised to get the Sky back to winning ways.
