New York Liberty vs Las Vegas Aces recap
The New York Liberty and the Las Vegas Aces clashed for the fourth time in their second-round series after the Aces made a statement and took Game 3 with a 95-81 win at Michelob ULTRA Arena. Both teams were ready to win this game and their intensity showed that both meant business.
The Liberty took the first quarter 23-19 to let everybody know they weren't the same squad that lost on Friday night. The Aces bounced back in the second quarter, taking it 19-18 to end the first half down 41-38. Breanna Stewart scored 15 points while Sabrina Ionescu added 12 units for the Liberty. Kelsey Plum and A'ja Wilson responded with 12 and nine points, respectively, to keep their team in the game
Both teams made adjustments on defense, combining for 28 points in the third quarter. The Aces were more intense while the Liberty forced mistakes. Breanna Stewart added four points while A'ja Wilson dropped seven, but she also recorded a big block on Stewie when three Liberty players attacked her on defense.
The Aces got the 16-12 win in the third period thanks to a Jackie Young buzzer-beater from behind halfcourt. "Locked in on the defensive end. We just gotta stay disciplined on the defensive end and everything will follow through," Wilson told ESPN at the end of the third quarter.
The New York Liberty started the fourth quarter more focused, as they went on a 7-0 run to get an 11-2 advantage within the first five minutes of this period. The lead went to 21-11 in the quarter in the next minutes, although the Aces didn't give up. The clock wasn't in their favor and the Liberty knew how to manage their advantage. The New York Liberty eliminated the Las Vegas Aces with a 76-62 win, preventing them from three-peating.
