Angel Reese will play for Rose Basketball Club in the Unrivaled basketball league in January next year. The roster, coached by Nola Henry, includes Kahleah Copper, Chelsea Gray, Azura Stevens, Brittney Sykes, and a still-to-be-determined wildcard. They will compete against five other groups for the championship.
Players named to the teams are already busy preparing for the Jan. 17 tip-off. Reese and Copper are looking forward to more than just the basketball competition, though. The Phoenix Mercury star said on X (formerly Twitter), that she has “to learn how to play spades.”
Reese responded to the post:
“Please somebody teach us in Miami cause it’s embarrassing atp”
Basketball players, particularly in the NBA, often have a friendly game of spades, poker, blackjack, and others. When they gather for some leisure time, the cards sometimes come out. A wager can readily grease the competition.
The same affinity for card games is also shared by some WNBA players. A handful, though, aren’t as good at it as Reese and Copper. They must catch up to give their more experienced fellow basketball stars a tougher competition.
Fortunately for the two, Dearica Hamby, who will play for Vinyl BC, which will be coached by former Chicago Sky tactician Teresa Weatherspoon, responded:
“I got yall”
Fans react to Angel Reese’s “embarrassing” problem
With millions of followers on Instagram and X combined, it didn’t take long for Angel Reese to get reactions to her post.
“Why y’all playin spades in the first place?”
@hussle_716 added:
“Fly me out and I’ll show you”
@TheRealSageBell said:
“Spades is a game you gotta learn as you go. If you get yelled at it builds character.”
One fan commented:
“You just gotta get the books”
Another fan reacted:
“To just sit around in Miami to play cards after your basketball games? In Miami??? That's something you do in Minnesota... or Wisconsin... or something but in Miami???”
Angel Reese and Co. are excited to play in the league created by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier. The players are also interested in testing their card game skills against the competition.
