Chicago Sky star Angel Reese continues to grow her stock as she was awarded the 2025 BET Sportswoman of the Year award. She was given this recognition on June 9 during the 25th BET Awards, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. Reese became only the second woman, after Serena Williams, to win the award on three separate occasions.

The Sky forward received the honor for a third straight year, with her influence on and off the court becoming more apparent. Reese was nominated alongside some big names, including A'ja Wilson, Dawn Staley, Coco Gauff, Simone Biles and Juju Watkins.

The award highlighted the Sky superstar's rapid ascent following a standout rookie season. Reese shattered multiple records as a freshman, including the single-season mark for most rebounds (446) and tied the record for most consecutive double-doubles (9).

Furthermore, she also had a successful tenure in the new 3x3 league, Unrivaled, leading the Rose BC to the league's first-ever championship. Reese also set multiple records during Unrivaled's inaugural season, recording the first-ever 20-20 game and becoming the first recipient of the Unrivaled Defensive Player of the Year Award. Amassing multiple accolades on the court, her influence off it has been substantial too.

One such example is her social media presence as she continues to grow as a cultural icon. Reese became the most followed player in the WNBA with 4.6 million Instagram followers, showcasing her impressive reach. Additionally, she extended her influence into philanthropy with initiatives such as the Angel C. Reese Foundation.

The organization is focused on empowering girls through sports, education and financial literacy. All of this combined showcased Reese's status as a trailblazer, as she was rightly awarded the 2025 BET Sportswoman of the Year award.

WNBA legend expresses her views on Angel Reese-Caitlin Clark rivalry: "It’s like comparing apples and oranges"

WNBA legend Candace Parker gave a damning take on the Angel Reese-Caitlin Clark rivalry, as comparisons between the two continue to hover around the WNBA. The former MVP is not pleased with the comparisons, claiming it was like "comparing apples to oranges."

During an episode of Jamele Hill's 'Spolitics' podcast, Parker gave her candid views on the rivalry.

"It’s like comparing apples and oranges … What are we doing? They like doing the Magic and Bird comparisons … I'm not falling into that… I think there are a number of things that Angel Reese can improve on. The thing about Caitlin, yes, she can shoot from the logo, but she makes her team better," she said.

The Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark rivalry has been a boon and a curse for the league. While the competition between the two has increased viewership, there is growing animosity between the two sets of supporters, creating a rift within the WNBA.
