Breanna Stewart had an amazing game for the New York Liberty against the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday night at the Barclays Center. Sitting courtside. Cheering on Stewart was her wife Marta Xargay, who was very excited to cheer on the reigning MVP.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, WNBA reporter Khristina Williams of SNY TV shared a video of Xargay celebrating a basket by Stewart. It happened around two minutes into the fourth quarter, with the Liberty down by 19 points.
"Stewie" made a nice cut to the basket and received a pass from Nyara Sabally. She made the layup and got fouled on the play, hitting the bonus free throw to trim the lead to 16. However, the Liberty's run fell short, as the Lynx took an 88-79 victory.
The 30-year-old UConn legend reacted to her wife's celebration by sending a one-word message and reposting the video on her X account.
"Mine," Stewart tweeted.
Breanna Stewart finished the game with 38 points and 18 rebounds on 12-for-27 shooting from the floor.
It was one of Stewart's best games of the season, but she barely had any help. Sabrina Ionescu only had 13 points after struggling with her shooting, going 4-for-21.
Jonquel Jones, meanwhile, wasn't aggressive at all, with just nine points on seven shots, while Nyara Sabally contributed nine points off the bench.
The New York Liberty remain atop the WNBA standings with a 31-7 record, with Minnesota Lynx right behind, at 29-9.
Each team has two games left on their schedule, so things will need to go wrong for the Liberty to relinquish their No. 1 seed to Minnesota.
New York has the Washington Mystics and the Atlanta Dream on assignment, while the Lynx face off against Connecticut Sun and the LA Sparks.
