While Caitlin Clark has been the driving force, multiple players on the Indiana Fever have been catalysts to the team's success. As the regular season ended, one analyst gave their guard duo extremely high praise.
During Sunday's episode of his "Nightcap" podcast, Shannon Sharpe opened up on the Fever's backcourt. While he acknowledged a handful of guard duos, he feels Indiana has the best pairing in the league.
"[1:47:39] I ain't sure I'm taking anybody over Caitlin and Kelsey Mitchell," Sharpe said. "Right now, the way Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell are playing, I'm gonna them DMs."
While Clark has taken the WNBA by storm in her rookie season, Kelsey Mitchell is also in the midst of a career year. She is on pace to post her highest points per game average at 19.6. Mitchell has also been one of the league's top three-point shooters. She is third in three-pointers made (109) and is shooting an efficient 40.2% on high volume.
Clark and Mitchell are certainly in the conversation for the WNBA's best backcourt, averaging nearly 40.0 ppg. They're certainly the best sharpshooting guard duo with their three-point shooting numbers. Led by this pairing and others like Aliyah Boston, the Fever have completely changed the franchise's trajectory.
Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell dominate in Indiana Fever's win over Dallas Wings
The Indiana Fever took the floor on Sunday afternoon in their second-to-last game of the regular season. Aside from Caitlin Clark setting another record, she and Kelsey Mitchell put together a dominant outing.
The Fever barely escaped a victory, winning by a score of 110-109. Clark and Mitchell were a major catalyst in Indiana coming out on top, as they combined for 65 of the team's points.
Clark led the charge, posting a team-high 35 points, eight assists and three steals. She broke the rookie scoring record soon after setting the single-season assist record.
Mitchell wasn't far behind Clark in production, scoring 30 points on Sunday. Most points came from beyond the arc, knocking down six of her 12 attempts.
The Fever have advanced to 20-19 on the season with the win. Indiana is locked into the No. 6 seed heading into the postseason. Things could still change at the top, but Clark and company are on track to match up with the Connecticut Sun in Round 1.
The Fever have a few days before taking the floor in their regular season finale. They'll finish their schedule on Thursday with a matchup against the Washington Mystics.
