WNBA champion Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty continues to train in the offseason with some egging from fellow athlete and husband Hroniss Grasu. He recently took to social media to share a video of him nitpicking on his wife while she was doing cardio.
The NFL player posted on his Instagram stories that had him driving while laughingly urging Ionescu to go faster as she ran around their neighborhood.
He poked fun at her, writing:
"Caught you slacking. SMH @sabrina_i"
Oregon alumni Sabrina Ionescu and Grasu made their relationship public in 2021 and after two years he proposed to the basketball star. They got married on March 10, 2024 in Laguna Beach in California in an intimate ceremony with family and friends.
To make 2024 more eventful for her, she went on to win her first WNBA title, helping the Liberty beat the Minnesota Lynx in five games in the finals. It capped a solid season for Ionescu where she averaged all-around numbers of 18.2 points, 6.2 assists, 4.4 rebounds and a steal in 38 games.
She also helped Team USA bring the gold once again in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Sabrina Ionescu says husband a big help to her career
Sabrina Ionescu said her husband Hroniss Grasu has complemented her career as a WNBA player, helping her to stay focused and motivated as she forges ahead.
She spoke about it in an interview with Vanity Fair in July, highlighting that being an athlete like her, Grasu has provided added perspective on what she is doing.
"It's good to have that perspective of being married to another athlete. It keeps me levelheaded."
Adding:
"My husband is really positive. Sometimes it's annoying. But you know, he's been able to help me a lot. Like, you go home, sit there, and you start thinking, and he's able to ... he's like, 'It's just one game. You didn't win or lose.' So getting postive affirmation from the people around me helps."
Grasu is an offensive lineman who played in the NFL for nine seasons with stops in Chicago, Baltimore, Miami, Tennessee, San Francisco and Las Vegas. Like his wife, he played for the Oregon Ducks in college, where he was a consistent All-American.
In the last WNBA campaign, he was a constant supporter of Ionescu, by her side in almost every game. He rallied behind his wife as she successfully earned her first-ever WNBA title with the New York Liberty.
