The Chicago Sky released the latest injury update on veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot, who suffered a knee injury on Saturday against the Indiana Fever. An MRI confirmed the worst, with Vandersloot being ruled out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL in her right knee.
In a post on social media, the Sky announced that Vandersloot has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and is expected to undergo surgery very soon. Her season ends prematurely, playing just seven games in her second stint with the Sky.
"All of Skytown is behind you Sloot!," the Sky tweeted.
Courtney Vandersloot was averaging 10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.6 steals this season before her horrific injury. She was shooting 43.9% from the field and 84.6% from the free-throw line but was struggling from beyond the arc at 21.7%, which was a career low.
So, how did Vandersloot suffer the injury? The Chicago Sky hosted the Indiana Fever on Saturday at the United Center. The Sky were down 9-6 midway through the first quarter when Vandersloot drove to the basket and got past Aari McDonald.
The two-time WNBA champion tried to go for the layup and made a quick stop to draw the foul on McDonald. As she was about to shoot, she seemingly landed on her right foot. It caused her knee to buckle, and she immediately grabbed it and was in pain.

The Sky were never the same after that, with the Fever dominating from start to finish. They were no match, even with Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham sidelined for Indiana, losing 79-52 and dropping to 2-5.
Courtney Vandersloot's second season in Chicago ends with a knee injury

After two seasons and one WNBA championship with the New York Liberty, Courtney Vandersloot became a free agent. Vandersloot signed a one-year, $185,000 contract with the Chicago Sky. They were a team desperate for veteran leadership, plus shooting and scoring.
Vandersloot's career began in Chicago, getting drafted by the Sky in 2011 out of Gonzaga. She played 12 seasons in the Windy City, helping the franchise win its first WNBA title in 2021. She was also a four-time WNBA All-Star as a member of the Sky.
The Washington native left in 2023 to join the New York Liberty in a two-year deal. She went to the WNBA Finals twice, winning her second title last season.
