The Chicago Sky traveled to New York on Tuesday to take on the defending champion New York Liberty in a WNBA Commissioner’s Cup showdown. Angel Reese’s Sky entered the matchup with a struggling 2-5 record, while Breanna Stewart’s Liberty began with an unbeaten 8-0 record.

Chicago’s starting five featured Angel Reese, Kamilla Cardoso, Ariel Atkins, Rebecca Allen and Rachel Banham. The Liberty rolled out a starting lineup of Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, Natasha Cloud, Nyara Sabally and Leonie Fiebich.
Right from the tip, the Liberty asserted their dominance over the struggling Sky. Sabrina Ionescu lit it up in the first quarter, scoring 10 quick points to help New York build a 26-15 lead by the end of the period. Despite a strong start from Reese, who scored seven points on efficient shooting, her efforts didn't prevent Chicago from falling behind by double-digit margin.

In the second quarter, the Liberty took full control as Stewart found her rhythm and began dominating offensively. With Stewart joining Ionescu in the scoring surge, New York widened the gap and entered halftime with a commanding 52-32 lead, extending their advantage to 20 points.
The Sky couldn’t regroup after halftime and the Liberty showed no mercy, continuing to dominate and leaving no room for a potential comeback. Sabrina Ionescu and Breanna Stewart put on an offensive masterclass, helping New York extend its lead to 70-42 heading into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter followed the same script, with starters getting additional rest as the game was well out of reach. The Liberty cruised to an 85-66 victory, extending their undefeated streak to nine games.
