The 2025 WNBA season tipped off with a three-game slate on Friday. The Minnesota Lynx defeated the Dallas Wings 99-84 at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.
Napheesa Collier, among the favorites to win league MVP this year, led the Lynx with 34 points and four rebounds on 12-for-21 shooting, including 2-for-3 from the 3-point line. Courtney Williams had 25 points, nine assists and four rebounds on 10-for-15 shooting (2-for-4 on 3-pointers).
Jessica Shepard added 15 points and eight rebounds on 5-for-7 shooting, while Diamond Miller scored 13 on 4-for-5 shooting off the bench.
Arike Ogunbowale led the Wings with 16 points and four assists. DiJonai Carrington finished with 15 points and three rebounds. Myisha Hines-Allen added 11 points and six rebounds, while Maddy Siegrist scored 11 off the bench.
Paige Bueckers, in her professional debut, finished with 10 points and seven rebounds on 3-for-10 shooting.
Last season, the teams were on opposite ends of the standings. Dallas finished last season with the second-worst record in the WNBA (9-31), while Minnesota was No. 2 with a 30-10 record.
The Lynx, last season's championship runners-up, started their 2025 campaign among the favorites to win the title. In the annual WNBA general managers' survey, 60% of the GMs voted Minnesota as the title favorite, while Collier got 67% as the MVP favorite.
