DiJonai Carrington is being recognized as one of the best young stars in the WNBA after her breakout 2024 campaign. On Monday afternoon, Carrington revealed her partnership with Instagram, appearing on a New York billboard alongside two other WNBA stars.
Carrington shared a joyful reaction to the unveiling of the Instagram billboard with Breanna Stewart and A'ja Wilson.
"Being able to be me on the biggest stage is a blessing🙏🏽 , Buckle up for next season 😏," Carrington captioned her Instagram post.
Carrington secured a starting role for the Connecticut Sun in 2024, earning Most Improved Player and first-team All-Defensive honors in her first season as a starter. In 39 games, DiJonai Carrington averaged 12.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.6 steals. Her strong play carried into the playoffs, where she averaged 13.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.0 assists.
The 26-year-old guard is tapping into her immense potential that led the Sun to select her with the No. 20 pick in the 2021 WNBA Draft. She finished the season as the fourth-leading scorer on the Sun and established herself as one of the best backcourt defenders in the WNBA.
Unrivaled announced DiJonai Carrington as 19th player
On Sept. 4, Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart's Unrivaled league announced DiJonai Carrington as the 19th of the 36-player pool. Unrivaled made the announcement and shared a graphic of Carrington on X.
Unrivaled initially planned to feature a 30-player pool, giving the league's six teams five players each, but announced a six-player expansion Thursday afternoon.
Unrivaled features a star-studded collection of players, with Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier, Angel Reese and Kelsey Plum all set to suit up alongside DiJonai Carrington.
The league will follow a 3x3 format, giving each team three starters and three reserves. Unrivaled announced the nicknames of its six teams -- Laces BC, Lunar Owls BC, Mist BC, Phantom BC, Rose BC and Vinyl BC -- on Oct. 24.
Tipoff for the inaugural season is scheduled for January 2024. The league also signed a multi-year deal with TNT as a broadcast partner.
