Golden State Warriors All-Star forward Draymond Green hinted the Chicago Sky need not look too far in finding a new head coach, backing their assistant Ty Young for the post.

The Sky coaching post is vacant after the team surprisingly fired Teresa Weatherspoon this week after just one season at the helm. Young, who was a former WNBA player, was part of the staff of 'TSpoon.'

Young shared an appreciation post for Weatherspoon on Instagram, thanking the latter for taking a chance on her as an assistant, her first gig as a coach. While disappointed it was cut short, she was hopeful that new opportunities would come in.

Her post garnered mixed reactions, including one of support from four-time NBA champion Green, who pushed for her as a possible coach of the Chicago Sky or any other team, highlighting how she is a true student of the game.

Green wrote:

"Same grind Different Way. Head Coach in the making!"

Young played 12 years in the WNBA after being selected eighth overall by the Atlanta Dream in the 2008 rookie draft from James Madison University. She last played with the Las Vegas Aces in the 2019 season. For her career, she had averages of 7.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists.

Chicago Sky had it rough in first year under Teresa Weatherspoon

The Chicago Sky struggled in the first year, and what turned out to be her lone season, of Teresa Weatherspoon with the team which saw it miss the WNBA playoffs for the first time in six years.

She was selected as coach in October last year after serving as a player development coach with the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA. Weatherspoon saw what started as a stint with a lot of promise not pan out as hoped, notwithstanding the presence of top rookies Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso.

The Chicago Sky never got the consistency in their campaign, with the most win streaks they had not going over two straight, which came far and in between. Worse, they lost 12 of their last 14 games, dooming their playoff hopes altogether and sending them reeling to an overall record of 13-27.

Chicago said in a statement that after careful consideration, it deemed that it was in the best interest of the team to part ways with Weatherspoon.

Reese, who created a special bond with her former coach, was "heartbroken" over the development but nonetheless grateful for the learnings she got from the Basketball Hall-of-Famer.
