"I expect her to get the same 1.7 GPA hate": Fans compare Chloe Kitts' situation to Angel Reese's LSU absence

During her time at LSU, Angel Reese faced a lot of criticism for allegedly having a low GPA. This narrative as reared its ugly head again following news of an academic suspension in women's college basketball.

On Sunday afternoon, South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley put out a statement about Chloe Kitts. She is set to miss their next game due to what is being called an "academic policy issue." In light of this news, fans on social media instantly began comparing her situation to Reese's LSU days.

Despite having gone on to graduate and reach the WNBA, fans continued to rehash Reese in light of Kitts' situation.

"Let this been Angel Reese .. while yall lie on her . LSU never had to put out any message like this ." One fan said.

"she’s not even gonna get 1/4 the hate and slander that Angel got off of a LIE." Another fan said.

"Hope the so called fans use the same Energy they used when they speculated about AR yet hers was a mental health issue," said one fan.

Angel Reese was suspended by LSU during the 2023 season, which lead to low GPA rumors swirling. However, it was never confirmed that grades were why she was forced to miss time. Reese was also not eligible for the Wooden award that season due to academic requirements.

Angel Reese and LSU coach Kim Mulkey addressed the low GPA rumor

As this narrative started to take shape in November of 2023, Angel Reese and LSU coach Kim Mulkey attempted to set the record straight. Both implied that the four games the star forward sat out had nothing to do with academics.

The first to speak on the sitatuion was Reese herself. She took to X (formerly Twitter) with a simple remark, stating that people shouldn't believe everything they hear.

"please don’t believe everything you read." Reese wrote.

Later on, Mulkey talked about Reese and her being left off some awards lists despite being one of the top players in women's college basketball. She made it clear that future top-ten pick was in a good place in regards to her grades.

"It's just there's a criteria on some of these awards like, a lot of them will have community service stuff. Some of them will have GPAs, yeah. She's academically fine," Mulkey explained.

Angel Reese arrived at LSU in 2023 after spening her first two college seasons at Maryland. She'd go on to have a lot of success, averaging 20.9 points and 14.4 rebounds across two years. Reese also led LSU to a national championship in 2023.
