Stephen A. Smith showered A'ja Wilson with high praise after the player broke the WNBA's record for the most points in a single season while dominating Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever on Wednesday. The veteran has been on a tear this season, even though her team hasn't been as dominant as it was in the last two campaigns.
That said, Smith still sees Wilson as the best player in the league and already an all-time great.
"I think she's the greatest player in the game, I think she's one of the greatest players of all time," Smith said on Thursday's edition of First Take.
"Not only is she averaging 27.3 points per game, but she's on the verge of breaking Diana Taurasi's record in that category. She's also a two-time defending WNBA champion; she's also a two-time reigning Defensive Player of the Year and not only she's leading the league in points, she's leading the league in defensive rebounds and block shots at 2.7 a game.
Smith added that Wilson is why he thinks the Aces are still the favorites to win it all this season until another team tells otherwise.
"I know they're the fourth seed, but I don't give a damn about the three seeds ahead of them. You will have to show me in a playoff series somebody beats A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces. I'll believe it when I see it."
Bam Adebayo sent one-word message to support A'ja Wilson
A'ja Wilson has been linked with Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo this year, especially after they were spotted together in Las Vegas while Team USA was preparing to go to Paris for the 2024 Olympics.
Wilson has supported Adebayo, even attending a special event in his honor, and the Heat player did the same once Wilson broke the WNBA record for the most points scored in a single season.
In the wake of A'ja Wilson's 27-point performance, Adebayo hyped up Wilson's MVP campaign on X/Twitter.
"U'nanimous," he tweeted Thursday morning.
Despite the Aces being the fourth seed in the league this season, Wilson has played even better than she did in the past two years. She's having a historic campaign, and the season isn't over.
