Sabrina Ionescu will start for the New York Liberty against the Seattle Storm on Monday. New York doesn’t have anyone listed on its injury report so the sharpshooting guard will be ready to suit up for the team. With a healthy lineup, Sandy Brondello’s group will have a big chance of rolling to another win to stay unbeaten in the season.

Ionescu and Co. will have a big advantage to add another W to their record in the showdown with the Storm. Seattle star Nneka Ogmuike is dealing with a sore ankle but is reportedly expected to play. The visitors are also coming off a tough road win less than 24 hours ago against the Mystics.

What happened to Sabrina Ionescu?

Basketball fans wondered how Sabrina Ionescu didn’t seem to be herself in the 2023 WNBA Finals against the Las Vegas Aces. The Aces defense had to be credited for containing the deadly shooter but many were convinced she played through an injury.

Ionescu confirmed those suspicions when she told the media after the Aces won the series 3-1. She admitted taking painkillers just to suit up in Game 1 as she “couldn’t really walk.” Had it not been for a hip injury, she might have done more for New York throughout the series.

After the October championship series, Sabrina Ionescu promptly started her recovery program. Once healthy, she went back to work in preparation for the New York Liberty’s 2024 WNBA campaign. The team’s starting lineup is back so it has a very good chance of having another deep playoff run. The Liberty will be looking to get the job this time after last year’s disappointing loss.

Sabrina Ionescu’s stats vs Seattle Storm last year

Ionescu put up 16.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 6.8 assists in four regular-season meetings with the Storm in 2023. Despite getting double-teamed often, she also averaged 45.6% from deep during that stretch. Seattle did not make it to the playoffs last year so Ionescu did not have a chance to go up against them past the regular season.
