The LA Sparks and Dallas Wings squared off in a regular season matchup on Friday at College Park Center in Arlington. Both Western Conference teams were eager to secure a much-needed win, with the Sparks entering at 2-6 and the Wings struggling with a 1-7 record.
The Sparks rolled out a starting lineup featuring Rickea Jackson, Dearica Hamby, Azura Stevens, Kelsey Plum and Odyssey Sims. Meanwhile, the Wings were once again without star rookie Paige Bueckers, and started Maddy Siegrist, NaLyssa Smith, Myisha Hines-Allen, DiJonai Carrington and Arike Ogunbowale.
LA came out strong in the opening quarter, with all starters except Sims scoring at least four points. Hamby led the early surge with nine points, helping the Sparks take a 21-17 lead into the second frame. For the Wings, the in-form DiJonai Carrington shouldered much of the offensive load, contributing five points in the opening period.
Trending
The second quarter unfolded much like the first, with the Wings staying competitive thanks to strong offensive production from their bench as the starters continued to struggle finding rhythm. Despite the effort, the Sparks maintained control and carried a 45-40 lead into halftime.
The Sparks seized full control in the third quarter, led by a dominant Dearica Hamby who caught fire after halftime. The veteran forward scored effortlessly, helping LA build a 67-55 advantage heading into the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, the Sparks slammed the door on any hopes of a Wings comeback, extending their lead to over 20 points early in the period. All five starters finished in double figures, powering the team to an impressive 93-79 victory, their third win of the season.
