The Las Vegas Aces vs New York Liberty game on Sunday is the last regular-season duel between these two opponents. After meeting in the finals last season and a couple of competitive games this season, the stage was set for their third and final matchup of the 2024 WNBA season.
Despite not having A'ja Wilson for this game, the Aces didn't back down to the challenge, starting the first quarter with confidence, as Jonquel Jones and Alysha Clark took over early in the period.
On the other hand, Breanna Stewart tried to assert her dominance from the beginning, but the Aces didn't let her dominate that easily, finishing the first quarter up 26-24.
The Liberty took off in the first minutes of the second quarter with Jonquel Jones and Sabrina Ionescu hitting big 3s. The home team made the adjustments and finished the first half up by 12 points after Stewart and Ionescu decided to take care of the offense.
The Aces didn't look comfortable, forced shots and made avoidable fouls that eventually hurt them. The Liberty showed that they're on a different level, especially with A'ja Wilson out.
The second half got a little closer, with the Liberty winning the third quarter by one point. Kelsey Plum started producing for her team, taking over the game and leading the back-to-back champions to an unthinkable comeback.
The Aces went off in the fourth quarter, limiting the Liberty to just 11 points while Plum continued her impressive run, finishing the game with 25 points, three rebounds and six assists. Jackie Young was her best partner with 12 points while Sydney Colson (eight points) showed up in the final period, hitting a 3-pointer that gave the Aces the first lead of the game since the first quarter.
Kelsey Plum was active on both ends of the field, even going against Breanna Stewart when she got up for a bucket. In the end, the guard had multiple chances to give her team another lead, but her shots didn't fall.
The Liberty, led by Stewart's 21 points and Ionescu's 14, beat the Aces 75-71, escaping a game against probably one of the toughest opponents they would find in the playoffs.

The Las Vegas Aces vs New York Liberty felt like an early playoff game. They went at it from start to finish, trying to beat each other and get their moral pumped ahead of the final week of competition.
The Aces showed a lot of heart and resilience, taking the Liberty to distance, but they missed several chances to secure the win, leaving the door open for their opponents to take it.
