Jason Whitlock has been very critical of Angel Reese in the past for her actions both on and off the court. He called her out once again on June 7, and this time, the former ESPN reporter dragged 11-time NBA All-Star Allen Iverson into the mix.
On Saturday, Whitlock uploaded the latest episode of his "Fearless" podcast on his YouTube channel. In the video, he criticized Iverson for defending Angel Reese as a spokesperson for Reebok and comparing her to himself.
"They are acting like she's Pam Grier in her prime," Whitlock said. "The level of simping for this woman with fake eyelashes and fake hair and eyes that are a little bit too far apart and a tiny bit of a mustache when her make-up isn't done right. Allen Iverson, Shaq, everybody is like, 'Oh, Angel Reese!'...This level of paandering!" (0:24)
After his thorny introduction to the segment, Whitlock pulled up the former Sixers star's recent statements about the Chicago Sky player. In his statement, AI called Reese one of the WNBA's brightest stars and named her as the answer to make Reebok 'cool' again.
Iverson also compared the 'Unrivaled' Defensive Player of the Year to himself, saying that her game was remiscent of his own exploits. Whitlock did not take the 2001 NBA MVP's statements very well.
"On a hoop level, this guy (Allen Iverson) was one of the most skilled hoopers," he said. "Slashes to the rim, jump shot and handles out of this world. Unless she(Reese) is a drunk degenarate gambler, I don't know what they have in common."
Later, he highlighted that Iverson comparing Reese with himself based on their rebellious nature and relentless spirit would have been a better match.
Jason Whitlock slammed Angel Reese for her lack of offensive prowess
After concluding the segment about Iverson's statements on Angel Reese, Jason Whitlock targeted the Sky star's lack of offensive prowess. He explained how Reese's shortcomings in the offensive department persists from her days in college basketball.
"In college, you couldn't see how unskilled she was," Whitlock said. "I think most people have been shocked by how bad she is offensively. Early on I got ripped for calling her the most unskilled basketball player I had ever seen and this was early in her WNBA career... and now everybody agrees with me." (6:26)
Angel Reese has been struggling offensively this season. She is averaging 9.0 points, 12.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. She is shooting an unimpressive 30.9%, which is significantly lower than her 39.1% stat last season.
In her team's latest game against the Fever on Saturday, Reese scored only 4 points and went 2 for 7 from the field. The Fever, even without Caitlin Clark, demolished the Sky squad and walked away with a 79-52 win.
