Chicago Sky star Angel Reese was seen working on layup drills following the team's practice session on Friday.
A clip of her session was shared by Chicago State of Mind Sports on X. In the video, Reese was with a couple of trainers and repeatedly jockeyed for position underneath the rim. She put up layups immediately after grabbing rebounds. Reese was also seen practicing driving layups and short jumper drills.
Fans claimed that Reese was practicing rebounds and intentionally missing layups.
"They are literally working on getting rebounds," one fan wrote.
Other fan reactions called for improved training for the 23-year-old.
However, a couple said that despite the level of the drills, they respect Reese's workouts.
The Sky practice at Sachs Recreation Center in Deerfield, Illinois. According to ESPN's Alexa Philippou, it is one of the "least desirable" facilities in the league, being 30 miles away from Wintrust Arena, the Sky's home court. In July, the team announced it would debut a new practice facility for the 2026 WNBA season.
Chicago is set to host the Indiana Fever on Saturday at the United Center in a rematch of their opening-day encounter. However, Fever star Caitlin Clark is set to miss the game due to a quad injury.
Angel Reese's shooting is cause for concern early this season
The Chicago Sky have started the 2025 season slow. They are 2-4 but have recorded two consecutive wins after starting the season with four straight losses. However, Angel Reese's shooting is cause for concern.
In six games, Reese is averaging a double-double (10.0 points and 12.3 rebounds) but is shooting just 31.1%. The Sky star has hit just 19 of her 61 field-goal attempts.
In Saturday's 94-83 road win over the Dallas Wings, Reese finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. However, she shot just 4-for-13 (30.8%).
In her rookie campaign, Reese shot just 39.1% in 34 games. While she put up 13.6 ppg and 13.1 rpg and was the Rookie of the Year runner-up, her shooting numbers were underwhelming.
Angel Reese working on her layups and shooting is a welcome sight for Sky fans, as they believe she has plenty of upside and could be Chicago's franchise player for the foreseeable future.
