Angel Reese's streak of consecutive double-doubles came to an end today against the New York Liberty after 15 games. Her last double double was recorded against the same opponents just two days ago.
With less than 20 seconds on the clock, she tried to get two points, but multiple defenders stopped her last attempt. She tried to get another chance but her teammates didn't pass her the ball, marking the end of her notable streak.
Plenty of WNBA fans reacted on X after the streak ended, going after Angel Reese for stat-padding but failing to do so. One fan explained why she can't be considered one of the best bigs in the W yet.
"With 5 fouls, Angel reentered the game to try and seal her double-double. Had a golden opportunity to score the bucket after expertly sealing off Kennedy Burke. But this kind of subpar finishing is the reason she's not one of the truly elite WNBA bigs yet," one fan said.
Others criticized Angel Reese's stat-padding behavior.
"Saddest attempt at stat padding I’ve ever seen," one fan said.
"This level of stat padding is diabolical," another fan said.
"And she’s still wanting the ball. 😂 Down 14. It’s over. Not in the same league in talent or character as CC," a fan said.
Others pointed out that the Liberty played harder than before against Reese, even saying he got the Caitlin Clark or Chris Paul treatment.
"They gave her the Caitlin Clark treatment," one fan said.
"NY said you going to have EARN this. No handouts like the other night," another fan said.
Angel Reese had a terrible game on offense
Despite grabbing 16 rebounds, Angel Reese was two points short of recording another double-double. The Liberty made sure to shut her down on the offensive end and didn't even allow her to get those two points in the final seconds of the game. Reese shot 3-for-13 from the field today, showing that she's far from being an elite finisher in the WNBA.
The Chicago Sky only had Marina Mabrey (21 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists) and Michaela Onyenwere (14 points) to show today. The Liberty got the 20th win of the season, while the Sky suffered their 14th loss of the season, with Reese struggling to make an impact all game long.
