Johnson and Reese were teammates for two seasons at LSU and won a national championship together in 2023.

Johnson said that although she wasn't friends with Reese, she still supported her.

"We not friends," Johnson said. "But that bond, that thing that we did together, winning a national championship, you can never take that away from us. I support everything she does, she's killing at WNBA...I am just proud of her."

When asked if they grew apart because of her "people," Johnson didn't deny it.

"Yeah, it was a lot of media, it was a lot of locker room stuff, you know what I'm saying? Stuff that go on behind the scenes. But it happens."

Fans were not happy with Johnson's reasoning and said she should hold her mother accountable.

Reese's mother, Angel Webb Reese, and Johnson's mother, Kia Brooks, famously engaged in a back-and-forth on social media after Reese was axed from the Tigers' lineup.

One fan hoped the two former teammates would mend their relationship.

"Sad she can't even hold her mom accountable for messing up a friendship. Media had nothing to do with it. Hope they find themselves back friends in the W."

A fan speculated that Johnson ended her friendship with Angel Reese because of her personality.

"She saw how fake AR is and had to cut ties."

Angel Reese once spoke about her relationship with Flau’jae Johnson

Angel Reese and Flau’jae Johnson were friends at LSU. They were pictured hugging each other after the championship win, with Johnson wiping tears from Reese's eyes.

On the "Unapologetically Angel" podcast last September, Maya Reese asked the Sky star about her relationship with Johnson since joining the league.

"I still support Flau'jae. We aren't as close as we used to be," Angel Reese said (Timestamp: 33:50). "And there's no hard feelings or anything, but we aren't as close as we used to be. It happens. You don't have the best relationships with everybody and don't always continue relationships ... but yeah, there's no love lost."
