Team USA vs Germany was arguably the biggest game on the women's basketball slate for Sunday. Both of these squads entered the matchup undefeated in the 2024 Olympics and punched their ticket to the knockout round.
The United States started off the Group Phase round in dominant fashion, taking down Japan 102-76, They followed that up by defeating Belgium 87-74 on Thursday. As the Olympics rage on, Team USA remains the heavy favorite to take home the gold medal.
Germany has taken down both of these teams as well, but not by such drastic margins. They too were last in action Thursday, as they picked up a 74-64 win over Japan.
Despite this matchup featuring two of the top women's teams, it did not end up being a close matchup. The United States came out of the gates slowly but quickly recovered and took complete control. Thanks to a strong second quarter, they managed to shift the momentum of the game.

The second quarter ended up being the major turning point in Team USA vs Germany. The United States outscored its opponent by 15 in that period, allowing it to create separation. From there, they managed to keep Germany at bay for the entire second half.
Through their first few matchups, A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart have primarily led the charge for the Americans in the Olympics. However, a new face emerged against Germany on Sunday. Jackie Young finished the game as the United States' leading scorer with 19 points on 54% shooting.
As for Wilson and Stewart, they still put together strong outings in this win. The former MVPs notched 14 and 13 points respectively against Germany.
For Germany, Satou Sabally did her best to try and keep her team undefeated. She posted a team-high 15 points but needed 18 shot attempts to reach this mark.
