WNBA fans asked for Chennedy Carter to receive an invitation for the inaugural Unrivaled season. The league co-founded by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart is set to start on Jan. 17 with a plethora of stars going to Miami to represent six teams trying to win the first championship.
Kelsey Plum opted not to participate in the first season of the tournament, leaving a spot available for a replacement.
After learning that Chennedy Carter went off with 42 points, 14 rebounds and six assists, plenty of fans called for her inclusion in Unrivaled. Others warned about the version of Carter that fans would see next season in the WNBA.
"With Kelsey plum dropping out of unrivaled, they should bring her in," one fan said.
"She coming back to the W wanting all the smoke," another fan said.
"It’s too bad Chicago catered their offense to an offensively unskilled rebounder. They have legit talent on the team but ruined it by catering to a borderline bench player. Crazy," another fan wrote.
A group of fans pumped up Chennedy Carter's performances, noting that it wasn't the first time she dropped 40 points with Wuhan.
"Wait. Didn't she just drop 42 points in her last game? So this was another one?" one fan questioned.
"2 40 pieces?? Ok Chenn🔥🔥" another fan wrote.
Kelsey Plum announced on Wednesday that she wouldn't participate in the first season of Unrivaled, adding that she wants to take time for herself.
"I've decided to not take part in the inaugural season of Unrivaled in order to take some more time for myself this offseason," Plum said in an Instagram story. "I appreciate the league understanding and being so accommodating. I wish the league and all of the players nothing but the best and I'm excited to watch!"
Chennedy Carter refuses to commit to return to the Chicago Sky
More after the Chicago Sky general manager shared his desire to bring back Chennedy Carter, nothing is certain regarding the guard's future. While she's shining in China, Chennedy Carter doesn't forget about her pending free agency.
After playing one season in Chicago, she hasn't committed to return to the Sky and one of her recent messages on Threads hints at a potential exit.
"Let’s chat !!! drop the wnba teams you would like to see me sign with next year 🤭 yall be coaches and gms anyways lol lets see what you think !! 🎸🏁," Carter wrote on Sunday.
She proved her value last year, but the challenge would be harder next season, whether she's with the Sky or any other squad.
