Chennedy Carter could give some terrible news to the Chicago Sky ahead of their game against the Connecticut Sun on September 19 for the chance to advance to the 2024 WNBA playoffs. The veteran guard, who has been tasked with leading the team after Angel Reese's season-ending wrist injury, disclosed after the Atlanta Dream game that she hurt her foot.
"I hurt my foot in the last game. it honestly happened the very first possession i touched the ball. i obviously continued to play with pain but guys i am not sure what it is. nonetheless better day by day 🫶🏽✨🏁," Carter wrote on Threads.
This is the last thing that Sky (13-26) fans wanted to see, as they're still in the race to clinch the eighth seed in the WNBA and advance to play the New York Liberty in the first round of the postseason.
Carter already missed time during a crucial stretch due to an illness that kept her sidelined for a couple of games. She's been the most prolific scorer for the Sky this season, even becoming a serious candidate to bag the 2024 Most Improved Player of the Year award.
Losing Carter for the Sun game would be a major blow for the Sky, but it's unclear how severe this issue is.
Atlanta Dream trolled Chennedy Carter after beating Chicago Sky
Besides losing to the Dream on the court (86-70) on September 18, Chennedy Carter also took a blow on social media when the team's social media admin on X (formerly Twitter) used the guard to make fun of the Sky, changing the team's logo and calling them the 'Chicago Cry.' Chennedy's image was also added to the now-deleted tweet.
Chennedy Carter signed with the Sky as a free agent ahead of the 2024 season, discovering a gem in her. She's averaging 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 48.7% from the field.
