The Chicago Sky were dealt a blow with Kamilla Cardoso's shoulder injury flaring up again on Sunday against the Phoenix Mercury at the Wintrust Arena. The Sun lost their center nine minutes into the game en route to a 93-88 defeat by Phoenix. The loss sees them slip to ninth in the standings with their playoff hopes looking slim.
Cardoso was a game-time decision heading into Sunday's matchup after her 16-point effort against the Minnesota Lynx. She had two points and three rebounds before exiting the game.
Kamilla Cardoso's shoulder injury comes at a bad time for the Sky, who need to win their last two games and hope that other results go their way. They are already without Angel Reese who was ruled out of the rest of the season with a wrist injury that needed surgery.
Kamilla Cardoso minced no words after Sky's loss to Mystics earlier
In the absence of Angel Reese, the Chicago Sky went down to the Washington Mystics last week. An upset Kamilla Cardoso called out the team, outlining the problems on both ends of the floor.
"You don't ever come to a basketball game thinking, ‘Oh, my energy's not going to be there.' We are competitors. We come here every day. We want to compete, and we want to win. So I honestly don't have an answer for you, but this was embarrassing. So I hope we figure out what was wrong, and go back to the court tomorrow, practice, or do whatever we gotta do and fix it for our next game.”
Cardoso is averaging 10.1 points and 8.1 rebounds this season. She has been a vital two-way player for the Sky.
Up next, the Sky hit the road for a clash against the Atlanta Dream and follow it up with a contest against the Connecticut Sun. The Dream are one of the teams in contention for the playoffs, making it a must-win for the Sky.
