With the WNBA regular season entering its final few days, ninth-placed Chicago Sky travels to 10th-placed Atlanta Dream in a game that will have a huge implication on both of their playoff chances.

Both teams are tied with 13-25 records. A win for either team, coupled with a loss by the eighth-placed Washington Mystics (who are also 13-25), would present some breathing room in the race for the last playoff spot.

Chicago Sky vs. Atlanta Dream preview

The Sky’s season has taken a negative turn over the last two weeks. Not only did they lose rookie Angel Reese to injury, but they also suffered insipid defeats to the Washington Mystics, Minnesota Lynx and Phoenix Mercury. This poor run of form has seen them lose the eighth spot to the Mystics.

To make things even worse, they’re winless in the last five road games. They are now up against a buoyant and resurgent Dream team, who will make this a tough outing for them.

Meanwhile, the Dream has been the WNBA’s surprise package this season. Tipped to consolidate at the last place, they instead find themselves battling for the playoff. They ended a three-game losing streak with an impressive 76-73 victory over the playoff-rival Mystics, which shows that these players have the capabilities to get the results that will help them stay afloat. They will be massive underdogs here, but they will likely be buoyed by the Sky’s recent poor form.

Chicago Sky vs. Atlanta Dream: What to expect

The one worry for the Sky is what they will do if Chennedy Carter is marked out of the game. Against the Mercury and Lynx, having Carter on the court helped the Sky not only offensively but in defense as well, as Kamilla Cardoso and Carter linked up brilliantly, despite the team being on the receiving end of those matchups. The Sky will need more than just Carter and Cardoso to break down what will surely be a tough opposition.
