Last month, Dearica Hamby filed a lawsuit aimed at the Las Vegas Aces. According to a recent report by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the WNBA and the Aces are working to have the case dismissed.
In the lawsuit, Hamby accused the Aces of acts of "intimidation, discrimination and retaliation.” She spent five seasons in Las Vegas before being traded to the LA Sparks in 2023. At the time of her trade, Hamby was pregnant with her second child.
On Wednesday night, a report surfaced that the league and Aces have filed motions to dismiss Dearica Hamby's lawsuit.
"The WNBA and Aces’ motions of dismissal, obtained by the Review-Journal, state that Hamby’s filing failed 'to state a claim upon which relief can be granted,' as Hamby is seeking undisclosed damages due to the loss of 'reputational prestige' associated with playing for the back-to-back WNBA champions."
Dearica Hamby battled lots of emotion in recent matchup against Las Vegas Aces
Shortly after filing the lawsuit against her former team, Dearica Hamby had to go into the Las Vegas Aces' arena as a member of the LA Sparks. With all the off-court stuff going on, it was a game that was very emotional for her.
While appearing on "Good Game With Sarah Spain," Hamby opened up on how she felt during the game. She did not receive a warm reception from the Vegas crowd, as they booed her every time she touched the ball. Hamby went on to admit that she fought back tears during the entire game.
“I fought back tears the entire game,” Hamby said (per SB Nation). “It was heartbreaking, but people don’t fully know and understand, they’re just going off the sport aspect of it. I understand that.”
Despite everything going on around her, Dearica Hamby still managed to have a good outing against her former team. She finished the game with 13 points, 11 rebounds and four steals, but the Sparks ended up losing by double-digits. Last month's matchup marked the last time the Sparks and Aces face off for the remainder of this season.
