The Caitlin Clark-led Indiana Fever might have a new coach in the 2025 WNBA season. Stephanie White's future in the WNBA is up in the air after the Connecticut Sun lost in the second round of the 2024 playoffs against the Minnesota Lynx.
According to Annie Costabile of the Chicago Sun-Times, three teams are interested in White's services, including the Fever. They have Christie Sides as their coach, but her job doesn't seem secure ahead of the 2025 season.
"THE LATEST: Stephanie White has been in talks with multiple teams regarding her future. The three teams remaining in picture at this point are the Sky, Fever and Sun according to multiple league sources," Annie Costabile wrote on X.
White was mentioned among candidates to take over the Chicago Sky after Teresa Weatherspoon was dismissed after only one season on the sidelines. The 2021 WNBA champions didn't have a good season and ended up losing the final playoff berth to the Atlanta Dream.
The Fever have been mentioned as an option for White, especially knowing the history she has with the organization. Clark had a terrific rookie season under Sides, but the front office is reportedly trying to maximize their chances to compete with the 2024 No. 1 overall pick.
Sides was frequently scrutinized, especially early in the season, for the way she coached Clark and the rest of the team. The Fever made a late push to the playoffs, but Sides' lack of adjustments in the clutch and passive approach against referees saw her stock go down among the franchise's fanbase.
Clark proved towards the end of the season that she can impact games against her veteran counterparts. If the Fever manage to land an experienced coach, especially someone like Stephanie White, they could find more success next year.
Stephanie White reveals she's dealing with family issues amid Indiana Fever links
Stephanie White discussed her current situation and revealed that her mind isn't in the best place to decide what to do with her career. During an interview with AP's Doug Feinberg on Friday, White said that she is dealing with family issues that have kept her mind busy.
“My priority is my family right now,” White said. “Honestly, just being here for my family getting through this, that’s my priority.”
She didn't go into detail about it but made it clear that her family is her top priority.
“I’m not having conversations right now about anything outside of my family,” White said. “I’m solely focused on my family and getting through this tough time.”
The Connecticut Sun finished with the third-best record this season (28-12) with a star-studded lineup, including Alyssa Thomas, DeWanna Bonner and DiJonai Carrington.
It will be interesting to see if Stephanie White will return to Mohegan Sun Arena or find a new challenge in the league.
