A'Ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces are looking to fight their way back from a 2-0 deficit to the New York Liberty in the WNBA Playoffs. Meanwhile, the reigning Finals MVP opened up on the 2024 WNBA season.

With the season being the first of Caitlin Clark's career, there was a newfound interest in the league among fans, many of whom had never previously followed a full WNBA season.

With that came a slew of new fans, critics and controversies. During an interview with ESPN, titled 'A'ja Wilson Unfiltered', the Las Vegas star spoke about the season. She also dwelt on how the newfound interest in the WNBA impacted her and the rest of the league's season.

At one point, Wilson spoke about the negativity she and the team have faced, explaining that deciding whether or not to respond to haters and critics feels like a no-win situation. Wilson then referenced playing at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indiana, which was often packed with fans eager to see Caitlin Clark play:

"That's something that I've really seen this year that I've never seen before. It's just like, damned if you do, damned if you don't. And you constantly have to live in that life for four months and over time it's just, 'Ugh'.
"I dreaded being in Indiana, not because it was like the city or nothing, it was just like, I just don't want no s--- to pop off."

The WNBA community was quick to take aim at Wilson for the comment:

"So… I was at the Aces game in INDY…. WTF A’ja talking about! Gainbridge is like the friendliest arena I’ve ever been in!" - One wrote.
"What a disingenuous behaviour," another fan said.
"Another reason why Aja Wilson is unlikeable. Angel Reese would never" - Another wrote.

Others also took aim at A'ja Wilson for her comments about the Gainbridge Fieldhouse and Indiana fans:

"My cousin was at that game too with her daughter and she told me it was one of the most fun sports environments she ever been in. A'ja flat out lying" - One more fan said.
"I think the problem is Aja - Another wrote.
"She's like the nutso journalist who wrote that 1 article. saying how 'unsafe she felt' when crowd cheered, feeling like it was a threat .. kinda sad .. that the mvp is nut job" - One added.

A'ja Wilson under fire for previous comments made to Kelsey Plum at Iowa-Uconn NCAA game

In addition to A'ja Wilson coming under fire for comments on playing at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, she was also criticized for comments made during the Iowa-UConn Final 4 game last year.

At the time, Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes were taking on Paige Bueckers and the UConn Huskies in the Final 4 of the 2023-24 NCAA March Madness Tournament.

In the video, Wilson can be heard speaking about Bueckers, saying that the NCAA standout reminds her of Plum because Bueckers knows her privilege has gotten her to that point.

Wilson then added that Bueckers is good at basketball, however understanding her privilege puts her "over the top in a sense," which reminds her of Plum.

"Us, as black women, Paige reminds me a lot of you. Like, you say, 'It's not really about me.' She knows. And she knows how her privilege has gotten her to that point.
"And also, she's good at basketball, obviously. She understands her privilege. It's like what pushes her over the top in a sense. It reminds me a lot of you. And I mean, that's a compliment."

In addition to fans questioning A'ja Wilson, many social media users also pointed out that she herself attended a private school with a yearly tuition of $20,000. Bueckers, on the other hand, attended public school in Minnesota.
