During her two years at LSU, Angel Reese built a strong relationship with coach Kim Mulkey. While the coach has a reputation for being a fierce competitor and pushing her players to do their best, her intensity has primarily been a defining trait of her coaching career, which has seen her win four Division 1 titles as a head coach.

After the LSU Tigers women's basketball team picked up a 94-88 win over Stanford Cardinal on Thursday, Mulkey spoke with reporters during the post-game press conference. While doing so, she talked about the intensity she brings as a coach.

This was on full display as LSU, who entered the game with a perfect record of 9-0, cut Stanford's lead to just two in the closing seconds before the half. As the buzzer sounded, a fired-up Mulkey took to the court to give her team high-fives.

Following the win and her post-game comments, Angel Reese took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to talk about her experience playing under Mulkey and how it paid off in her career:

"Don’t come to LSU if you don’t want to rethink this hoop life cause you will be battle tested. Happened time after time but definitely sooo worth it!!!"

"I could never imagine being a passive coach," - Mulkey opens up on the coaching style that helped shape Angel Reese's career

Mulkey has been a head coach for over 20 years now. After spending 11 years as an assistant at Louisiana Tech, she transitioned into an Associate Head Coaching role with the team from 1996-2000. After then coaching for 21 years at Baylor, Mulkey joined LSU in 2021.

Throughout her career, she has racked up a 733-118 record as a coach, winning four NCAA D1 titles and 11 Big 12 tournament titles. Additionally, she's won three College Basketball Coach of the Year awards and a Naismith College Coach of the Year Award.

During that time, she's had a chance to coach and help shape the careers of a number of WNBA stars like Angel Reese. After LSU's win on Thursday, she spoke about her coaching style with media members:

"The thing about this game is we are intense in there. You don't take anything personal. These kids belong to me and I belong to them. We chose each other. And I'm not the only one that gets up in them and challenges them. And I could never imagine being a passive coach."
"I could never imagine playing for a passive coach because I tend to think kids are a reflection of the coaching staff and we're not going to give up on them. And they played till the clock ran out, and that's basically how you won the game."

Given her resume, long list of accomplishments since stepping into a coaching role, and the admiration from players like Angel Reese, it's clear that Mulkey's coaching style has paid off.
