The 2024 Paris Olympics women's basketball quarterfinals commence on Wednesday with Spain facing Belgium in a matchup between two Western European powers.

Spain qualified after a perfect 3-0 record to finish first in their group. Back-to-back one-point wins over China and Puerto Rico were followed by an eight point win over Serbia in its final Group A game.

Belgium, meanwhile, had a far more difficult path to the knockouts. The team was on the verge of elimination after loses to Germany and the United States saw them drop to 0-2.

The team knew it need a massive victory in their final encounter against Japan, needing to win by at least 27 points. They did exactly that, edging the contest 85-58 to scrape through to the next round.

Belgium will enter the game on a high after a memorable win. Spain, meanwhile, will look to prove they are worthy of a semifinal spot after three unconvincing wins sees them enter the game as the slight underdogs. The team that progresses will face Germany or France for a place in the final.

Spain has been relatively consistent with their starting lineup througout the competition.

Coach Miguel Mendez made just one change to his original starting five, selecting forward Maria Conde over Queralt Casas in the final game versus Serbia. Conde finished with 15 points and three steals and could start once again.

Like Spain, Belgium has maintained almost the same starting lineup throughout the tournament. It opted for a slightly bigger lineup in the opening game versus Germany, but coach Rashid Meziane has started guard Elise Ramette in the last two games.

Spain vs Belgium Players to Watch

Spain's Megan Gustafson has been in tremendous form going into the tournament. The Las Vegas Aces center, previously with the Dallas Wings and Phoenix Mercury, was outstanding in the group stage. She's averaging a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in three games.

For Belgium, keep an eye out for Emma Meesseman. The former WNBA forward/center has dominated on the offensive front and leads all scorers with an incredible 26.3 points per game.
