Six women’s teams and eight men’s teams have now qualified for the 2014 Volleyball World Championships, reports Box Score News.
The fourth and final spot from the Asian belt for next year’s World Championship to be held in Poland was snapped up by China this past weekend. Meanwhile, Brazil took up the first of two places that were available to the South American teams.
In the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship Poland 2014 Asia qualifiers held last week, China overcame India 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-17) to book their trip to the marquee event alongside Australia, Iran and Korea from Asia. China finished top of Pool C, while the other countries topped their respective groups.
Along with these four Asian countries and hosts Poland, three other teams from South America have made it through – Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela. With eight teams already qualified, there are still 16 more places up for grabs between now and the event.
On the women’s side, Brazil beat Venezuela 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-17) at the Women’s South American Championship to guarantee themselves a place at the 2014 World Championships. It was their 18th triumph in the competition.
The 2014 Women’s World Championship will be held in Italy and the hosts along with Germany and Russia have qualified for the tournament with Brazil. Japan and Thailand are the two Asian countries that have booked their places to ensure that 6 out of 24 available places have now been taken.
There is one remaining spot for South American teams and the CSV Qualification tournament in Argentina between October 24 and October 27 will see Argentina, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela compete for that spot.
