Sri Lanka win First South Asian Invitational Men’s Volleyball Championship

Sri Lanka’s national volleyball team won the First South Asian Invitational Men’s Volleyball Championship at Kathmandu, Nepal. Sri Lanka beat Maldives 3 – 0 in the final played at the National Sports Council Hall at Kathmandu, Nepal.

Sri Lanka won 25 – 22, 25 – 19 and 25 – 23 in straight three sets. Sri Lanka were unbeaten in the four-team championships. Maldives were the runners-up, and Nepal were placed third while Afghanistan finished bottom.

Jenitha of Sri Lanka was declared the best player of the championships. The following players were also awarded:

  • Best Spiker: Hujam (Maldives)
  • Best Blocker: Keshmal (Sri Lanka)
  • Best Setter: Sanjay (Sri Lanka)
  • Best Libero: Junaid (Maldives)
  • Best Server: Sameera (Sri Laknka)

Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) were the organisers of the First South Asian Invitational Men’s Volleyball Championship, which was held from 12 to 15 July 2013 at Kathmandu, Nepal. National teams from four South Asian countries – Afghanistan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka – are participating in the first edition of the championship.

The tournament was played in the round-robin format. The top two teams in the standings entered the final of the championship.
