China snatches two golds in Junior Speed Skating World Cup

Chinese Han Mei and Shi Xiaoxuan claimed two gold medals at the ISU Junior Speed Skating World Cuphere on Saturday.

Han, who had three silver medals at the Lillehammer 2016 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), clocked two minutes and 2.84 seconds to win the women's 1,500 metres, beating South Korean Park Ji-Woo to the second by 1.38 seconds, reports Xinhua.

Comparing to the World Cup, Han was focusing more on the junior World Championships next week. "This is the most successful season in my career, and I am looking forward to making more progresses at the senior stage in the future," Han said of her ambition towards the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

In the women's 500 metres, Shi took the gold in 39.62 seconds, and her fellow Chinese Lin Xue was third in 39.72 seconds. Sandwiched between them was South Korean Kim Min-Jo.

Chinese Yang Tao got the bronze medal in the men's 500 metres in 35.86 seconds, which was won by Mikhail Kazelin of Russia in 35.80 seconds, and Ignat Golovatsiuk of Belarus took the silver in 35.81 seconds.
