Shiva Keshavan crashes but makes incredible recovery at Sochi Olympics

Shiva Keshavan makes an amazing comeback.

Independent Olympic Participant Shiva Keshavan takes part in a training session for the Men’s Luge Singles at the Sliding Center Sanki during the Sochi Winter Olympics on February 7, 2014.

During his practice run at the Sochi Winter Olympics, India’s Shiva Keshavan fell off his sled at a speed of approximately 70 mph but eventually managed to regain his balance and continue with his slide, in the process becoming an overnight sensation.

Keshavan displayed incredible calmness to survive his crash, and the fact that he could get back on his sled at all is nothing short of miraculous.

Since there are no rules for completing a lap without falling off the sled, Keshavan wasn’t disqualified and his time of 1:01.64 was recorded as the official one in the session’s results. Keshavan is racing under the Olympic flag owing to India’s suspension by the IOC due to corruption charges.

Aged 32, Keshavan has been competing in luge since the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, and has won several medals for India at the pan-Asian level.
