Asian Games 2014: Wushu player Sanathoi Devi assured of bronze, reaches 52-kg semifinals

Indian women’s wushu player Sanathoi Devi Yumnam is assured of a bronze medal after she got the better of Mongolia’s Sangidorj Amgalanjargal 2-0 in a quarterfinal bout of the 52-kg Sanda event in Incheon on Monday. The Manipuri lass exuded plenty of resolve to put it across her Mongolian opponent by the skin of her teeth. It may be mentioned here that Sanathoi had earlier defeated Mubarak Kamalova of Uzbekistan to reach the last-eight stage.The 24-year-old Indian girl now plays China’s Zhang Luan in the semifinal on Tuesday. Zhang had defeated Kyrgyzstan's Mambetova Albina in her quarterfinal bout. The other semifinal of the 52-kg Sanda event will feature Korea’s Kim Hyebin against Iran’s Mansoryansamiroumi Elaheh, also to be played on Tuesday.The Indian camp has more medal hopes with Narender Grewal taking on Pakistan’s Abdullah in the quarterfinal of the men’s 60-kg Sanda event. Another Indian wushu player, Rajani Deori faces Vietnam’s NGO van Sy in the quarterfinals of the men’s 75-kg Sanda event. Earlier on Sunday, India’s women wushu player Wangkhem Sandhyarani Devi lost to Thi Ly Tan of Vietnam in the women’s 60kg Sanda event in the round of 16, while male wushu player Santosh Kumar lost to Rizaidin Railin of Kazakhstan in the pre-quarterfinals of the men’s 56kg Sanda event.
