Avyay Gujral: Touching Heights

Avyay Gujral

Avyay Gujral

Tall, well built, shaggy hair Avyay Gujral on first sight looks like a rockstar but when you see him play with the ball you quickly recognize how skilled he is. He is destined to be a football star. I first met Avyay or rather saw Avyay in a practice session at Delhi at the Sirifort Sports Complex. It was his birthday and everyone was greeting him. Anyone could make out that he must be the star of the team. I and my friends from Yamuna Sports Complex were amazed how good he was with the ball.

It was like watching a mixture of Ibrahimovic and Ronaldinho. Everyone wanted to be friends with him but alas he was already surrounded. Avyay Gujral got his breakthrough after being selected for the Tata Tea Arsenal Talent Hunt. Avyay and co. then became the first team from India to win the trophy in the Tata Tea Arsenal Soccer Stars cup.

He was a part of the team which represented India in the U-17 Coca Cola cup in Brazil. He has also played in many Subroto cups but this was not enough for Avyay. He then trained and played with the Belgian club Aderlecht F.C.

After this he qualified for the Nike talent hunt but didn’t make it in the academy because he was still young and that just shows how talented he is. But the thing which will make any Indian proud would be his getting scouted by Manchester City and earning a week long trial with the club, surely this speaks of what we can expect from him when he comes of age. Apart from this Avyay has a series of videos on youtube showcasing his awesome skills.

I am all of us who have played soccer as kids would envy Avyay Gujral but hard work pays off. Avyay surely is a hard-worker and so he deserves everything that he has earned. Possible future for Avyay could be to become the torchbearer of Indian Football and make it in a high profile European Club but only time will tell what happens but our best wishes and prayers will always be with him and people watch out, he’s just 16.
