Wayne Rooney: A Bad Day

Just as when the ace striker was returning to form, a disaster was waiting to happen for Wayne Rooney. The Manchester United striker was today turned down the appeal he made against a two-match ban imposed by the FA for swearing into a TV camera.

Rooney, after completing a hat-trick against West Ham in a Premier League game which pushes them 7 points clear of second place Arsenal at the top, ran into the camera hurling abuses and offensive language.

He will now miss United’s home Premier League match against Fulham on Saturday and the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on April 16. However he will be free to play the Champions League return leg against Chelsea on April 13 as that doesn’t fall under the ambit of FA but UEFA.

In another incident, Coca-Cola today revealed that it was parting ways with the footballer whom they used as the face of Coke Zero after mutual agreement. In the process the 25 year old striker lost his £1m advertisement deal with Coca-Cola.

Coca Cola started denouncing him from September last year after allegations surfaced that he paid a 1,200-pounds-a-night prostitute for sex while his wife Coleen was pregnant.

Right after that, Rooney’s image was taken off from cans and bottles as the American soft drink giants felt it was “not appropriate” to use him in promotions but insisted their relationship was ongoing.

But just days after he was banned for a foul-mouthed outburst on live TV, Coca-Cola revealed that it was parting ways with the footballer. “We mutually agreed we would not renew our relationship. We wish Wayne well in his career,” the Daily Express quoted the firm as saying.
