Husky Harris returning to the main roster soon?

As I noted in a previous article, current FCW developmental talent Husky Harris may be one of several guys to receive their call-up to the main WWE rosters sooner than others. As it turns out, his addition (or in this case, return) to the main rosters may be sooner than the rest.

In FCW, Harris has been working on a new gimmick, as well as slimming down a little bit, and it turns out we may see him sooner rather than later. Harris has been working RAW live events lately, as well as some dark matches. Generally, this is a sign a wrestler is about to get their call-up.

When Harris does eventually get his call-up, this will be his second run on the main rosters. Harris competed in season two of NXT in 2010, coming in 4th place overall in the reality competition-themed show. In October, Harris, along with Michael McGillicutty, returned to the company as a member of the RAW roster, attacking John Cena in his Hell in a Cell match with former Nexus leader Wade Barrett, eventually joining the group. In January 2011, Harris and McGillicutty were unsuccessful in a title match against then-WWE Tag Team Champions Vladimir Kozlov and Santino Marella, and Harris was summarily punted in the head by Randy Orton, “injuring” Harris and allowing him to move back to FCW in order to fine-tune his skills. Since returning to FCW, he has become a main singles star, as well as part of a tag team with his brother, Bo Rotunda.

Harris, now wrestling under the name Bray Wyatt, has been utilizing a new gimmick in FCW over the last few months, as well as at the RAW live events. As Wyatt, he is portraying somewhat of a southern preacher-type. Some reports have said that the gimmick is reminiscent of Robert DeNiro’s role as Max Cady in the classic film Cape Fear. If that is the case, he will actually be the second man to utilize such a gimmick, as a similar character was used in 1995 by Dan Spivey, going under the name “Waylon Mercy”. The Mercy gimmick was considered fairly ahead of its time and has since developed quite a cult following. Unlike Spivey, Harris has youth and a healthy body on his side, which gives this gimmick a much better chance of catching on and keeping some longevity.

In other news, the aforementioned Bo Rotunda has been working Smackdown! live events lately as well, picking up wins against Drew McIntyre. Sounds like he may get his call-up soon as well.
