Bangladesh Cricket Board has failed to find a sponsor for series against New Zealand

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have not found a broadcaster for the series to be played at home against New Zealand in October.

A tender for the home series had been announced on July 15, but there have been no bids from broadcasters even after the deadline elapsed on Thursday.

“We will have to discuss and sell the rights to those who bought the rights the last time,” BCB’s acting CEO, Nizamuddin Chowdhury said.

“There were no bids within the given deadline. We will have to make sure of it or else the [New Zealand] series will be in jeopardy.”

Channel 9 had telecast the last home series between Bangladesh and West Indies. Channel 9 is a subsidiary of Virgo Media Ltd. who had purchased the of worldwide rights of broadcasting Bangladesh cricket for $50,000 during the period.

But as per Cricinfo reports, the BCB have not had a permanent sponsor since their deal of six years with Nimbus had ended in March 2012.

The BCB had floated a long term tender for the period between November 2012 to April of 2016, but found very few interested parties despite extending the the deadline twice and also making alterations to the initial offer.

Even those interested in the rights had offered sums that were far too less to be accepted by the BCB.

The BCB though, for the moment, will only concentrate on the New Zealand series as the Board has not elected its permanent members as of yet.

The present board is only performing on an ad hoc basis and will be replaced once the elections for permanent members is completed in August.
