Kidambi Srikanth was knocked out in three games

India suffered double disappointment in the Men’s Singles as Kidambi Srikanth was knocked out in three games by Hu Yun of China, 14-21 21-17 23-21 in the third round on Thursday.

The opening game saw the Indian take a 3-0 lead before Hu won 5 points consecutively to go 5-3 up in the game. The Indian then won 2 more points to make 5-5. But the key turn in the game arrived 10-10 mark when Srikanth first won 3 out of the next 4 points to go 12-11 up and then won 5 points straight to go 17-11 up.He would eventually seal the game 21-14.

The second game proved to be an absolute nail-biter but at the 8-8 mark, The Chinese took the lead and then began too chip away with the points to eventually win the game 211-17 and take the match into a decider.

If the second game was nail-biter then the decider proved to be even more tighter affair, as booth players gave their absolute best and in the end, it was Hu who managed to hold on to his nerve and won the game 23-21 and progressed through to the quarterfinal.

With that loss, all the 3 Men’s Singles contenders have now been eliminated and its now upto the Women’s Singles and doubles contenders to bring a medal for the country.
