About BWF World Championships 2019

The BWF World Championship is a multinational badminton tournament which is set up by the Badminton World Federation. It involves contestants from amongst the BWF members and each event has a gold medalist, a silver medalist and a bronze medalist. The players gain the highest ranking points on winning in this tournament and each winner is called the World Champion.


BWF World Championship 2018

The 2018 tournament is being organised in China and is scheduled to be held at the Nanjing Youth Olympic Sports Park in Nanjing.

The tournament will start on 30 July 2018 with Round of 64 events. The finals are scheduled to take place on 5 August 2018. There are five events in the tournament, namely - Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles.


Major Players

The 2018 BWF World Championship will see some of the best matches featuring players like Lin Dan, Son Wan Ho and Chen Long in the Men's Singles event. The Women's Singles event will feature players like Akane Yamaguchi, Tai Tzu Ying and PV Sindhu.


Players such as Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, etc. will contest in the Men's Doubles event and Chen Qingchen, Jia Yifan, etc. will be going for gold in the Women's Doubles event.


In the Mixed Doubles event, Chen Qingchen and Zheng Siwei, who are currently ranked at number one, will aim for the gold medal.


The Defending Champions

Viktor Axelsen will defend his title against Chinese players who won silver and bronze respectively in Men's Singles event. Similarly, in the Women's Singles event, Nozomi Okuhara will face a hard competition from Indian and Chinese players like PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Chen Yufei.


In the Doubles event, Liu Cheng and Zhang Nan will defend their title in Men's category and Chen Quinchen and Jia Yifan will defend their title in Women's category.


In the Mixed Doubles event, Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir will defend their title against a set of Chinese players who are currently ranked at number one and two in the BWF World Rankings.
