Bangladesh are no more 'bachchas' of Cricket : Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar and MS Dhoni

Former India batsman Sunil Gavaskar applauded Bangladesh for their stunning performance in the ongoing series against India, saying that the neighbour has indeed moved on to the next stage. The 66-year-old legend admired the team for the historical bilateral series win over India, pointing out the margin of victories as proof that this was no fluke.

"The Bachcha has grown up and is shoulder-to-shoulder with India. Just look at the margin of wins. These are not wins where Bangladesh have scraped through (but) these have been big and thumping wins, which actually shows a big difference between these two teams." said Gavaskar.

"Bangladesh was the superior side without any doubt. What went wrong though for India is that the batting just did not click. It has always been the team's strength. Batsmen should have capitalised here.”

There was a Star Sports advertisement in the lead-up to the India-Bangladesh series which referred to the smaller nation as ‘bachhas’, referring to their lack of historical achievements compared to India.

Bangladesh players have matured: Gavaskar

Bangladesh have now won their last 10 ODIs at home, and have been on a dream run since the 2015 World Cup.

Gavaskar said, "Their performance in the World Cup was extraordinary. Some of the targets they chased down, 300-plus targets in the world cup, I think they have grown in confidence over the last couple of years, their players have matured as well.

"The guys who were rookies in 2007 - Mushfiqur, Shakib and Tamim - they have grown as players, and the results are there for everybody to see.”
