Although the Kolkata Knight Riders had a successful outing in their home match against the Kings XI Punjab yesterday, Brad Hogg is the only one who may be slightly unhappy thanks to a stroke of poor luck which cost him a wicket.
It was the 10th over of the Kings XI innings and they were struggling at 54 for 4 when David Miller missed one that went the other way from Hogg. The bowler and fielders went up in appeal for caught behind against the southpaw, but it was turned down by the umpire and rightly so.
The replays supported the umpire's decision but at the same time, they revealed a shocking fact as well. The ball had hit the top of Miller's leg stump; however, the bails refused to fall giving the batsman a respite but leaving the bowler hard done by. That was the first of Brad Hogg's two overs in the game and he was taken for 28 runs without a wicket against his name.
The incident did not hurt the Knight Riders much, though, as David Miller was able to score just 13 runs from 18 balls. However, he did manage to string together a 67-run partnership with the hard-hitting Glenn Maxwell, which kept the Kings XI Punjab alive in their chase of 165.
Had KKR's left-arm chinaman bowler picked up Miller's wicket at that point, he could have fetched a few more with the opposition batsmen under even greater pressure. But it wasn't to be and just to make matters worse, Maxwell tore into him and hit boundaries at will to destroy Hogg's figures.
But the high-spirited 45-year old Aussie looked totally unfazed by what had happened by the end of the match as he celebrated yet another victory for the Kolkata Knight Riders with his teammates.
