International Cricket Council (ICC) have charged India team manager Vinod Phadke for his comments against umpire Vineet Kulkarni's decisions during the India-South Africa series. ICC tweeted saying the hearing with the Team India official will take place in Indore after the second one-day-international (ODI) match.

After the defeats in the Twenty20 international series and in the first game of the five-match ODI series, hosts India showed their unhappiness with umpire Kulkarni for what the home team felt was poor officiating. According to a report on ESPNCricinfo, team manager Vinod Phadke said that he was going to complain about the decision-making at the end of the series.

"I have not seen the captain's report, but I am going to mention him in my report, it is obvious to everybody that the umpiring has not been good," Phadke was quoted saying by ESPNcricinfo. ICC charged him for making these "inappropriate comments."

Following the first T20I, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni also gave a statement on the decisions made during the match and said: "We did not have quite a few decisions going our way and sometimes these can change the match, it could have been different if we could have got Duminy out early.”

Officiating his 7th T20 match, Kulkarni turned down Axar Patel’s appeals to get JP Duminy out when South Africa still needed 96 off 48 balls. Duminy got a further reprieve off Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling, capitalising on his two extra lives to take his team home for a last-over victory.

In the Kanpur ODI too, Kulkarni was guilty of two errors which proved crucial in the 5-run loss for India. Kulkarni is one of the four Indian umpires in the ICC International Panel of Umpires and has stood in 6 T20 and 17 ODI matches before this series since his umpiring debut in 2009.

Former General Secretary of The Goa Cricket Association, Phadke was named as manager of the India team before the Mahatma Gandhi-Nelson Mandela series. He had started his career as manager of the Under 19 Indian team in 2006 when Virat Kohli and Ishant Sharma were part of the squad.

Phadke was also the Manager of the U-19 Australia quadrangular series in 2013 and the U-19 World Cup team that won the prestigious tournament. He went to New Zealand in 2013 as a BCCI co-ordinator. Currently, the Proteas are leading the ODI series by 1-0 with four more matches to go.
