He scored only 10 in the one innings he played but he entertained the crowd at Eden Gardens with a wicket in the first innings. Sachin Tendulkar bid adieu to Kolkata in a much low key manner than he would have loved but he made up for it when he gifted a pair of gloves and a white shirt, that he wore against West Indies, to the Cricket Association of Bengal.

“He was very kind and gave us the gloves and a white Team India jersey which he used during the last Test match against the West Indies. We would put them up in the museum,” – Subir Ganguly, the CAB joint secretary confirmed.

Sachin Tendulkar played his 199th Test match at Kolkata and the CAB planned a grand farewell for the little master and showered him with gifts after and before the game. Mamta Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, herself presented Tendulkar with her painting and the CAB gifted him a silver banyan tree with 199 leaves on it.

However, CAB incurred huge losses because the game ended on the 3rd day spoiling their plans of showering 199kgs of rose petals from three aircrafts on the Indian maestro on Day 4.

The permission for the airshow was taken only from the ATC for the last two days.

“By this we incurred losses of about Rs 1.3 lakhs but we hope to negotiate the amount,” the joint-secretary said.

But Tendulkar was very moved by the gesture and the celebrations organised by the Bengal cricket body and decided to gift the mementos before he left for Mumbai where he plays his last and 200th Test match.
