Indian Women defeat Australia behind Mithali Raj's 89 runs in 3rd ODI, ICC Women's Championship

India's women's cricket team just defeated Australia in the 3rd ODI of the ICC Women's Championship. Australia had set a score of 231/7 over 50 overs. India managed to successfully chase it down as they finished with 234/5 with 18 balls remaining.

Australian openers combined to score 36 runs as Meg Lanning scored 27 runs from 41 balls before she was bowled by Rajeshwari Gayakwad. Nicole Bolton scored 9 runs from 18 deliveries before being caught by Harmanpreet Kaur on a Jhulan Goswami delivery.

The next two batters steadied the ship for Australia as they scored half centuries. Ellyse Perry scored 50 runs from 92 balls including 3 fours. She was caught and bowled by Shikha Pandey.

Alex Blackwell added 60 runs from 64 balls in an efficient effort. She also hit 7 fours. She was bowled by Gayakwad on a delivery by Pandey. By the end of their innings, Australia maintained a run rate of 4.62 runs per over.

Two of the remaining batters for Australia went out for a duck by Pandey. Both Grace Harris and Megan Schutt failed to notch a run on the scoreboard. Jess Jonassen managed to hold her own at the crease as she scored 32 runs from 44 balls and added some stability to the tail end of the batting lineup.

For India, Pandey was the highest wicket taker as she claimed 3 wickets while allowing 50 runs from 10 overs. Gayakwad was the next highest wicket taker as she claimed 2 wickets and allowed 41 runs.

The Indian innings found some strong output from the Mithali Raj. She faced 113 balls and scored 89 runs, including 12 fours. Her remarkable performance was key to India's win. She missed out on scoring a century as she was dismissed LBW by Perry.

Smriti Mandhana opened and scored an efficient 55 runs from 52 deliveries for India. Six of India's batting lineup scored in double digits. By the end of the 25th over, India stood at 110/2. They maintained the chase as they had 190/3 by the end of the 40th over.

On the last delivery of the 46th over, Goswami hit Farrell for a boundary and Indian women secured some precious ICC points in the third and final ODI between the two teams.
