IPL 2016: Highest/Most Run-Scorers, Leading Wicket-Takers after Rising Pune Supergiants vs Gujarat Lions

Kredy
Steve Smith scored a brilliant century

Rising Pune Supergiants played Gujarat Lions on 29 April 2016 at MCA Stadium, Pune. Gujarat Lions entered the match sitting pretty at the top of the IPL 2016 table. GL would want to stay at right after this match as well. Rising Pune Supergiants thrashed Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last game. They would be hoping to get a second win in a row.

Gujarat Lions won the toss and decided to bowl first. No surprises.

Suresh Raina said, “It looks green and we have the bowling unit to exploit the conditions. Finch is not fit. Tambe is not fit. He injured himself during the last game. Shivil Kaushik is in.”

MS Dhoni said, "The fast bowlers will get a bit of swing here. It looks green but it is dry underneath. I won't comment too much about the pitch as I have not played many games here. Peter Handscomb and Albie Morkel are playing as Mitchell Marsh and Faf du Plessis are injured."

Peter Handscomb made his IPL debut today.

Ajinkya Rahane was in good form recently. He had scored half-centuries before at MCA Stadium, Pune in IPL 2016. He looked good today as well and scored yet another fifty. He paced his innings skilfully.

Steve Smith demolished Gujarat Lions bowlers. Smith scored a brilliant century and fired himself into the leading run-scorers chart. He scored 101 in just 54 balls. That century from Smith was special.

Steve Smith and Ajinkya Rahane put up a century for the second wicket. This brilliant partnership ended with a run-out. That was the second run-out of the innings. Dhoni played a spectacular knock in the final overs. RPS scored 195 runs in the first innings.

Chasing 195, Gujarat Lions needed a tremendous start. Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum gave them exactly that. GL put 63 runs on the board in the first five overs. Moreover, McCullum propelled himself to the top-10 run-scorers chart. Suresh Raina held his ground and entered the highest run-scorers chart.

Virat Kohli still holds the Orange Cap with 367 runs.

Praveen Kumar and Dhawal Kulkarni failed to pick up wickets upfront. Most of the Gujarat Lions bowlers didn’t have a great game. Dwayne Bravo dismissed Steve Smith in the last over and pushed himself into the fourth place in the top wicket-takers chart.

McCullum and Smith took the game away from RPS. Rajat Bhatia picked up the key wicket of McCullum. While Perera dismissed Smith. The damage was already done. It looked fairly easy for GL from here.

Murugan Ashwin pulled it back later half of the innings. He bowled an excellent eighteenth over. GL lost two wickets in the nineteenth over. The match was set up perfectly for an exciting finish.

Perera dismissed Raina in the last over. There was a run-out as well. After loads of drama in the last over, GL edged it past RPS with a last ball finish.

Mitchell McClenaghan leads the highest wicket-takers chart with twelve wickets. While DD’s Amit Mishra has the best bowling figures in IPL 9 with 4/11.

Great fielding will win you matches. We have seen some extraordinary fielding in IPL 2016. Chris Lynn’s catch against Mumbai Indians was spectacular. We have seen some brilliant relay catches as well. Watson-Weise relay catch is the best catch of the tournament so far.

AB de Villiers has the most number of catches of the tournament. Parthiv Patel dismissed most players as a wicketkeeper.
