Not the end of the world: Kevin Pietersen on Brazil's semi-final loss

Former England international Kevin Pietersen, tweeting during the host nation Brazil’s 7-1 drubbing at the hands of Germany in the FIFA World Cup semi-final on 9 July, said that ‘it is not the end of the world’ for the football crazy nation and that ‘sport deals some dreadful hands at times’.

Brazil were at the receiving end of what the Telegraph refers to as the ‘biggest humiliation in the history of Brazilian football’ earlier today; 5 goals were slotted past goalkeeper Julio Cesar within the first 29 minutes as the home team looked dejected, with no option but to accept defeat.

With pictures of fans in the stadium in disbelief, some even crying, the humiliating performance attracted a lot of criticism.

Pietersen, however, having seen such defeats in his cricketing career with England, with the most notable ones being the couple of 5-0 Ashes whitewashes in 2007 and 2013-14, was understanding of Brazil’s plight. The 34-year-old tweeted:
