Michael Clarke has quit Sydney Thunder due to international commitments in December-January this year. He affirmed that he would prefer to offer a contract to a young player for Sydney Thunder. Clarke was part of the Sydney-based team, but hasn’t played a match for them.

The Australian captain said that with four Tests against India and then the triangular one-day series with India and England, he is uncertain to make his debut for Sydney Thunder this summer. "Having looked at the fixture list for the upcoming summer it became apparent that my opportunities to play for the Thunder would be extremely limited” Clarke said

“I think it is in the best interests of the club if I make myself unavailable for selection this season and allow the Thunder the chance to offer a contract to a younger player who would really benefit from the opportunity. I will continue to support the club and monitor the situation in future seasons regarding availability," he said

Sydney Thunder have had tough times losing 19 T20 matches in a row, but managed to end that drought with a win over Melbourne Renegades. However, Sydney Thunder would be hoping for a better season this time as they will be coached by Paddy Upton.
